Anna Fontanet is a dancer, creator, and independent artist from Barcelona, with a career focused on the exploration of movement and stage creation within the framework of contemporary dance. Initially trained in contemporary dance in her hometown, she expanded her horizons through an international journey that allowed her to explore new ways of thinking and understanding dance. This search has led her to connect with mentors such as David Zambrano, Francesco Scavetta, Pep Ramis, Maria Muñoz, Nancy Stark, and Juylen Hamilton, key figures who have influenced her practice rooted in instant composition and contact improvisation.
A graduate in graphic design from Elisava (Pompeu Fabra University), Anna combines visual arts with movement arts, creating a unique artistic language. Since 2011, with a master’s degree in digital arts, she has incorporated elements of stage composition and digital arts into her projects, weaving a network of dialogue between movement, space, and technology.
Co-creation & Collaborations
Within the realm of contemporary dance, Anna Fontanet has built a notable career both nationally and across Europe. Her artistic activity has focused on performing pieces and projects, emphasizing collaboration and stage creation. She has worked with a wide range of choreographers, which has allowed her to explore diverse approaches and enrich her creative perspective. Among them are Àngels Margarit, Vero Cendoya, Nadine Gerspacher, Olga Álvarez, Stephan Herwig, Katja Mirjam Boom, Sabine Glenz, Moritz Ostruschnjak, and Daniela Bendini, among others.
Creation
The methodology, born from her own creations, focuses on opening spaces of communication through the body, using it to shape and transform space. Her projects explore the presence of sound and movement, creating landscapes where these elements become inseparable from the shared experience. Through the creation of live soundscapes and the use of recordings from the surrounding world, the work seeks to establish a dialogue between the acoustic environment and the body.
Emphasis is placed on the highly technological capacity of the human body to sense and perceive, exploring what currently extends beyond the limits of machines, though with the uncertainty of whether they may one day reach it. This interaction between technology and human sensitivity redefines the relationship between gesture, sound, and space, opening new pathways for artistic exploration and connection.
Workshops and Artistic Labs
Anna Fontanet leads instant composition workshops based on the research and creative processes of her works, such as Blanc Salvatge, N.A.N., and I Escoltar l’Herba Com Creix. Through exercises that explore the relationship between body, sound, and space, she offers tools to connect with intuition and transform movement into a creative and reflective experience. Her workshops provide a space to share research and experiment with movement from new perspectives.
